The Hammerhead Goalie Training Program Revealed

Congratulations to the team for making it into the final four. If it wasn't for some stellar goal-tending we would of been golfing (on the wii for the kids) today instead of playing hockey. It's my understanding that coach Scott spent a lot of time preparing Greyson for the playoffs and I think I know where he got some of his goal tending drills from.

On A Roll

Well Hammerhead’s is there any stopping the fuzzy purple slippers?

As a team we started off a little slow but you all looked to each other and started to play like a School of sharks that where hungry!

You guys made us a little nervous when we where down a man not once but twice. Our penalty killing unit looked more like our power play unit. You guys where scary how bad you wanted the puck! Give yourself a big pat on the back it was another great game you all played.

Connor you took the puck from Greyson went the length of the ice and scored. You looked like a smaller version of a guy named Pronger! And then there's this kid named Braden B, another hat trick and 4 point outing! Your Dad is going to get upset at you for having to buy the team slurpees week in and week out!

And then there was Greystone with a great game in the pipes. Keeping us in the game in the first period. And Congrats to Owen for being the player of the game for the Hammerhead’s coming to play after puking up a lung on Friday!

So boys I will not be in town for the next two weeks so I need and want you to give Coach Ted the respect he deserves. I will be in contact with Coach Ted over the two weeks that I will be away and I will be watching the web and TSN. For updates I will call you if I hear of any problems and don’t make me calls you for not listening or fooling around! You know I will call and I will deal with the issue when I return so do yourself a favor and give Coach Ted your undivided attention!

So have fun and keep the streak a live. Go Slippers Go I mean Go Hammerhead’s Go!!

Again guys great game,

Coach Scott

The Secret Is Out

Fans across this great big nation are looking at a team in St. Albert called The Hammerhead's and there good luck charm and you guest it a pair of purple slippers!

Well, Hammerhead's what can I say but you all should be proud of this weekend!! First let me start off with the great effort and hart you showed us coaches on Saturday at practice! There was a lot to learn and you all skated like the wind for the whole practice and not one complaint!

I like to thank you all for that! It makes our job that much easier!

Now let’s talk about the game! You all played your positions like a true team! Forwards back up your D-fence when they went into the rush and D-fence you sure made the game exciting with all the pitching in from the point! Maybe we will work on the staying at home a little more but it worked for you this time! And what can we say about the wall they call Owen, great job eating all that rubber Owen!

Congrats to the player of the game for the Hammerhead's Brayden A.!!

Great goals from Connor, Brayden A., Rhys and 2 from Will.

Fantastic effort boys the Ice Dogs are tough team to play and I’m sure they are going to want to take a bite out of next time so we will have to be ready for them!

Have a great week and see you all next Saturday!
Coach Scott

Keep On Rolling Hammerheads

Hey Hammerhead's that was a great effort and game this weekend!

Just remember that if we don't keep the knife sharp it will be harder to cut that bread later down the road!

Meaning……”if you keep given it your all at practice like you did this past weekend we will stay sharp and it will be that much tougher for the other teams to beat us." Great weekend boys!

I want to talk to you boys about the stats that are posted on our web site. We as players play the game and the ref’s ref the game and between all of us we all make mistakes. We all learn from our mistakes!

What I am trying to say guys is that some of you had scored a goal but did not get credit for it this past weekend. You all have to remember that the refs are learning as well as you are and they are not much older then you. We all know the game of hockey is fast and hard to see sometimes and so the ref tries to make the right call but doesn’t always get the right call.

Please remember kids that the NHL refs have instant reply to look at if they are not sure what the right call should be. Our refs have to make the call right there! No replays for them. So give them a break if the make that mistake because if you don't then why should I give you a break if you make a mistake!!

So have a great week and Happy Halloween!!

Coach Scott

P.S. I made a call to NHL Head Quarters in Toronto and ask if we could get a correction on a couple of goals and assts. and to a favor to my dog Abbey they aloud me to make the corrections but they told me that next time it has to stand! So I told them Thanks on behalf of The Hammerhead’s Organization.

A Moment With Coach Scott

The Hammerhead Blog is pleased to present a special moment with our coach and the boys mentor, Scott.
In this special one on one interview, Coach Scott shares everything he knows about hockey, coaching and life in general. I hope you enjoy this special presentation.

The 8:30 Curfew Comes Through!

Well it took just about halfway through the second period before the Mighty Hammerhead’s woke up from the early morning 6am start. Well the seas where ruff again in the first period being 3 goals down going into the 2 period. It took a turn at the 5 minute mark; Thanks to Owen’s quick snapped shot from the top of the key to start the feeding frenzy. Within the next 55 seconds the game was tied up and the sea saw battle began. It was another hard fought battle against those worthy knight but the out come was different then last week with The Hammerhead’s coming out on top 5-4 with goals coming from Owen, Greyson, Ryan, Braden B. and two from Kiernan! Way to go Hammerheads you should all be proud of the team effort that you all showed!
P.S. Yes I will wear my PJ’s, robe and those fuzz purple slippers to the next game if that is what it takes to win! I to will be a team player!

The Owenator - Football and Hockey, Hockey and Football

This is a busy time in the Bonner household. My son Owen is playing both Football and Hockey and the last game of the Football season is this weekend, and then the playoffs go for the next month. His team, the Jags, are 8 and 1 with 244 points for and 32 against. They have a good chance of making it to the tier One Championship finals if they keep playing the way they have been, but anything can happen in the playoffs.

I made a little video to help motivate the team.
Owen is Number 3.

This Years Schedule

We just got this years schedule and we have five games at Performance arena this year. This is great news as it is the best arena to play in, and the best one to video tape in. I will do my best to shoot all five games.
For those who haven't seen last years highlights from there, check out some of the games from last year at

HAMMERHEADS VS HAWKS

We played our first game of the season on Sunday and I must say, I am impressed with our team. The boys played well, skated hard and created some chances. I shot the game but the quality isn't as good as I would like, shooting through dirty glass in high def kinda looks like your shooting through dirty glass. None the less, I wanted to get the first game on tape so we can see the improvements as the team gels over the next few months.
Here are the video highlights.

Hammerheads are the dark jerseys and the Hawks are the white Jerseys.

The "HAMMERHEAD BLOG PLAYER OF THE GAME" as awarded by me, goes to number 4, Ben.
He played a solid two way game and was everywhere. He blocked shots, made some great passes, fore-checked, back-checked, and even scored a goal.

My son Owen also registered two points and played a solid game on D. Greyson was also a force to recon with and played hard and won some good battles for the puck.
Kiernan also had a great game and got a goal and an assist for two points. In fact, most of our team got on the score sheet tonight and there wasn't one weak performance anywhere. We have a well balanced team with a ton of second year novice players who know what to do. We looked like a team, which for the first game of the season, is amazing.
As we move on through the calender, I trust the coaches will find the right chemistry for lines and positions and we will not only have fun, but we will get our share of well earned wins.

Great start Hammerheads, it will only get better as the season progresses.

The Puck Drops Sunday

Well, it's time. For those who don't know our first practice is Saturday (sept 29th) at Akinsdale
from 8:45 - 9:45am. and our first Home Game is Sunday against team 1501. At this point, I am not sure what their team is called but they are being coached by the Hard Nosed Dewit Camp. Expect a fast skating game with lots of end to end action. Our coaching staff won't have much time to get the team in order and will probably have to relay on our veteran players like Ryan, Greyson, Chris and Owen to help lead the team both on and off the ice.

The Puck drops at 8:00 am on Sunday, September 30th and is in the Akinsdale arena. Hope to see you all there as we get ready for the 2007/2008 season.

LETS GO HAMMERHEADS!

Until The Whistle Blows

Hi Hockey Fans, it's time for another exciting year of Novice hockey, my name Is David Bonner and I will be your On Line Host for the next few months.

Last year, my son had the pleasure of playing for the St.Albert Oilers and they had a terrific season and finished the year with a Silver Medal. It was a lot of fun blogging the games and making highlight video reels. Last year, novice hockey was spoiled and we played a lot of games at Performance Arena. It was a great place to shoot video and I took full advantage. This year, we are not so lucky but I still plan to shoot games periodically.

I look forward to spending time with the friends we have on the team and I look forward to making new friends with the ones we haven't met yet.

So until the whistle blows, lets have some Hammerhead Fun!
